ABOUT HILLTOP HONEY COMPANY
Our passion for Honeybees started with a ride on a golf cart through a friend's apiary in Piedmont, South Carolina on a sunny afternoon. We got the buzz and soon had our own hive. Our passion expanded with every season. Learning more about Honeybees and their role in the ecosystem.
It wasn't long before we were looking for other ways to help people connect deeper with nature and find different ways to bring the wonders of nature to your daily routines with handcrafted and honeybee inspired products. It started with bottling our jars of raw, delicious honey and it soon grew into crafting beeswax candles.
Each sales helps our apiary grow and allows us to continue to find homes for honeybees that take up residences in highly trafficked residential areas. It also allows us to continue to plant more native and indigenous trees and plants to increase the food sources for our pollinator communities.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF HONEY
SOUTH CAROLINA FOOTHILLS WILDFLOWER HONEY
12oz glass jar of raw, unfiltered honey made by Honeybees on the South East edge of the Appalachian Mountains, near South Carolina's Jocassee Gorge that forms Lake Jocassee. This area is home to a rare flower called the Oconee Bell, it is a delicate bell-shaped wildflower. Recently discovered is another rare flower named Shealy's Saxifrage, after a South Carolina Botanist. It’s white in color with yellow and red accents and can be found along the edges of slopping granite outcroppings, moss mats or in crevices. Blooms from February to May.
The South Carolina Foothills Wildflower Honey has a robust, rich and complex cherry colored honey that has a warm, bold, and forward flavor that has undertones of chocolate and cherry with a hint of tartness. This honey is a great addition to oatmeal, glazed meat, peanut butter and honey sandwich, or on a charcuterie board with a bold flavor cheese.

SMALL BUSINESS ADVOCACY
The owners of Hive & Honeybee, based in Central Virginia were invited to speak to members of Congress in November 2021 about the challenges small businesses currently face and how legislators can provide more support.
This was an incredible experience to be able to discuss with lawmakers on Capitol Hill and represent small retailers and their challenges. Great engagement and an excellent representation with a wide ranging group of small businesses. It is encouraging to see Congress getting in touch with Main Street America to support positive change that drives economic growth and development for small businesses across the nation. It was an honor to be invited to Washington D.C. by the National Retail Federation as a representative for Small Retailers around the country and what the biggest challenges are that we are facing in the industry.
THE PACKAGE COALITION & SHIPPING IMPACTS ON SMALL BUSINESSES
It’s concerning to hear that private carriers are lobbying Congress to raise Postal Service package prices through whatever means possible. Our small business is already taking a hit right now by offering a flat shipping rate far below the actual cost, but the US Postal Service typically offers the most affordable prices compared with other carriers. If the Postal Service’s prices were raised even further due to outside pressures, Americans could expect to see private carriers like UPS raise their costs as well.
I don’t know how our business would handle even higher package prices, but it’s safe to assume that higher package prices will lead to hiked prices throughout the economy.
Current postal legislation before Congress would officially codify the Postal Service’s status quo: keeping packages and mail delivered together. It would also enshrine six-day delivery into law.
